HIGGINSON
BOOK COMPANY Higginson Book Company is offering photocopy reprints of several Beach-related titles. Use their site's "Genealogies" search menu to locate the following items, with current prices: Charles C. McLaughry, Genealogy of the Beach Family Of Connecticut, With Portions Of The Genealogies Of The Allied Families (1905), 246 pp. DESCRIPTION: McLaughry seems to have obtained most of his data from Samuel Orcutt's History Of The Old Town Of Stratford, Connecticut (See below). This volume may thus prove most interesting to those who descend from John Beach1 or Richard Beach1, both of whom moved to Stratford in the late 1660's/early 1670's. Elmer Taylor Beach, Beach In America (1923), 149 pp. w/index. DESCRIPTION: This little volume traces the descendants of Richard Beach1, with several lines carried down to the early 1920's. It also includes some limited information on John Beach1 and Thomas Beach1; a picture and description of the coat of arms of the English Beach/Beche/de la Beche family; and the author's admitted speculations about the English origins of the New England Beaches. While containing some significant errors, it is still a useful and entertaining history. Alma Lewis James, The Ancestry And Posterity Of Obil Beach (1936), 456 pp. w/index. DESCRIPTION: As its title indicates, this book is primarily concerned with the ancestry and descendants of Obil Beach5, Amos4, John3, John2, Thomas1. Its account of the first five generations of the family is based largely on the Beach Family Magazine, but much of the data on later generations is new. It includes numerous photographs of various members of this rather large branch of the family. Rebecca Donaldson Beach, The Rev. John Beach And His Descendants (1898), 397 pp. DESCRIPTION - The Rev. John Beach of the title is John Beach3, Isaac2, John1, who was a famous Anglican minister in Newton, Connecticut. The book may therefore be of most interest to descendants of John Beach1. As the first known published genealogy of the New England Beach family, however, this volume deserves a place on the shelves of every serious researcher. NOTE: This title is also available through Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc. See their entry below. Mary E. and Helen Beach, The Descendants Of Thomas Beach of Milford, Connecticut (1912), 51 pp. DESCRIPTION: This pamphlet is based in large part on the Beach genealogy appearing in A. G. Hibbard's History of Goshen, Connecticut (See below), and thus focuses on the descendants of John2, Thomas1. As a result it perpetuates two unfortunate errors, i.e. the claim that Thomas Beach2, John1 was the son of Thomas1, and that Caleb Beach3, Thomas2, John1 was himself a descendant of Thomas Beach1. For those who descend from Thomas Beach1, however, this remains an important resource. NOTE: This title is also available through Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc. See their entry below. Beach data from Samuel Orcutt's, History of Stratford, Connecticut (1886) - 6 pp. DESCRIPTION: Samuel Orcutt wrote histories of several Connecticut towns and would usually include one or more sections of genealogical data. This pamphlet consists of Beach entries from Orcutt's History of Stratford, Connecticut, which Higginson Book Company has extracted and reproduced. The focus is primarily on the Stratford descendants of John Beach1. Beach data from A. G. Hibbard's, History of the Town of Goshen, Connecticut (1897) - 18 pp. DESCRIPTION: This pamplet consists of Beach entries from Hibbard's History of the Town of Goshen, Connecticut, which Higginson Book Company has extraced and reproduced. The focus is primarily on the descedants of Deacon John Beach3, John2, Thomas1. This was the principle source of the data found in Mary E. and Helen Beach's Descendants of Thomas Beach of Milford, Connecticut (See above). TUTTLE ANTIQUARIAN BOOKS, INC. Tuttle Antiquarian Books currently offers softcover photocopy reprints of the following titles: Rebecca Donaldson Beach, The Rev. John Beach And His Descendants (1898), 399 pp. NOTE: This title is also available through Higginson Book Company. See their entry above.
